Estellencs: Rustic Charm of Majorca, Spain

Our second trip to Spain was even more remarkable. I pretty much left my heart in Majorca and still dream to go back to our little village, Estellencs. There are no words to describe my love for this romantic place with its rustic charm and narrow, climbing streets, all nestled in the montains of Tramuntana. What marvelous nature and breathtaking views! We stayed in Sa Plana Petit Hotel which has only five guest rooms named after the different winds of the Mediterranean. Our large Mestral room had a beautiful mountain view. And there is nothing like rising with the cockcrows while the morning breeze filled our room.

Every morning breakfast was prepared by our hostess and it was such a great pleasure to enjoy it quietly among oak and olive trees. Local cheese and ham was so delicious even the bees were eating it. The village doesn't have a lot of restaurants but the food and wine everywhere were really good. Here I fell in love with Sangria and paella. By the way, Estellencs has its own festival in the end of August. The best part of it is a paella competition. That night we ate the best paella ever. No kidding!

We also did a lot of driving along the North Shore. And it was so beautiful everywhere. Every corner, every turn had something to please our eyes and hearts. The roads were very narrow and curvy so when one of the many HUGE tour busses would pass us in the opposite direction it definitely 'white knuckle' time in our little Fiat. It's the only one downside I can think of. The place is kinda perfect.

The welcoming spirit of Estellencs's inhabitants made me feel so very much at home, even few years later I still miss the place badly.
